Women’s Therapy Statistics

More women than ever are taking proactive steps to care for their mental health, and the data reflects this positive shift. From addressing life’s challenges to seeking support for women’s issues like postpartum changes or body image concerns, women are turning to therapy as a valuable tool for healing and growth. The following statistics highlight this growing engagement with counseling services and mental health treatment:

  • 43% of women with depression received counseling or therapy in the past 12 months, compared to 33% of men.
  • 26.4% of U.S. adult women experienced any mental illness in 2022, and 56.9% of those women received treatment, compared to 41.6% of men.
  • Women are nearly twice as likely as men to receive mental health treatment in a given year—29% of women vs. 17% of men in 2022.
  • Major depressive disorder occurs in women at twice the rate of men, contributing to higher treatment engagement among women.

These statistics underscore that women not only experience mental health challenges—like depression and anxiety—at higher rates than men, but they are also more likely to seek and receive treatment. Despite this encouraging trend, a significant number of women with mental health needs remain untreated. This highlights the importance of accessible, evidence-based care—such as the in-person and online women’s therapy services offered at Luxury Psychiatry Clinic.

By choosing an empathetic, trauma-informed, and tailored approach, our clinic helps bridge the gap—ensuring more women in Chicago and beyond receive the support they deserve.

Therapy from a Female Therapist

For many women, working with a female therapist can foster a deeper sense of understanding, safety, and trust. A female therapist may be uniquely attuned to the women’s issues her clients face — from navigating life transitions and relationship issues to addressing body image, postpartum experiences, and self-esteem. This shared perspective can help create a safe space where clients feel empowered to explore their emotions and experiences openly, knowing they are supported by someone who understands the nuances of women’s mental health.

At Luxury Psychiatry Clinic, we recognize the importance of this connection. That’s why we offer access to skilled female therapists, licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), licensed clinical professional counselors (LCPCs), and psychiatrists who specialize in providing compassionate, evidence-based care for women. Whether you are seeking support through in-person sessions in Chicago or online therapy across Illinois, our team is here to help you navigate life’s challenges and move toward greater well-being.
